First Review Gain Ground

Hello Gamers and Readers,

This is my very first Blog post so to start of the posting of reviews I chose one game that I know very very well. It is called Gain Ground for the Sega Genesis. Now Gain Ground isn't just for the Genesis there is also a Sega Master System Port of the game as well as a TurboGrafx port and a PlayStation 2 remake. It also appears in Sega Genesis Collection for PlayStation 2 and Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for PlayStation 3 and Xbox360.

So Gain Ground is out there on a lot of systems and everything but thats not what makes the game. So then is the game good? For that question it is a deafening YES! To tell you about it I have split this review into 3 different categories.

GAMEPLAY
The game is a Top Down Shooter but has some strategic elements to it. However you don't just play with just one character instead you start out with 3 in all and collect more as you go along for a total of 20 character you can collect. Then of course each character has there own abilities. Some character might be really fast but have low firepower or some have high firepower but are slow as snails. This make every character feel unique. To get a character is very simple in the game. All you have to do is grab them and drag them to the exit and your done simple as that.

The goal of each level is in the same fashion get all character you own to the end of the level or kill all enemies. This is where the strategy opens up because you could go into a level and win it by killing everybody with a high firepower guy or clear a path for all your character to travel through. The decisions to fight some enemies to grab a new character or to leave them behind this game is full of strategy and with 50 level to go through there are going to be a lot of small decisions just like this to make.

GRAPHICS & MUSIC
Now for graphic there really not a lot to say. They are very good for it time and everything and you can tell what is what. However I have come across some glitches in the graphics but they aren't going to ruin you game experience. I also love the unique look each character has in the game. Something however that will ruin the game experience is the music. For each set of 10 level there is a new music that play but sometimes the music gets annoying as you go through those long sets of 10. If there had been more music variety I would have been happier but some of the music the game plays is good and catchy.

CONTROLS
The controls on this game are very nice. You of course use the D pad to move, B to use Normal Attack, and C to use a Special Attack. Start pauses your game and A does nothing. At the start of the level you use the D pad to select a character by pressing up and down and then B to select. Finally this game was as nice as to give a Co-op option so you and a friend could sit down and play a game together shooting down enemies with strategic plan you two come up with.

FINAL JUDGEMENT 9/10
